The Heart Nebula (IC 1805) in Cassiopeia is a vast emission nebula about 7,500 light-years away in the Perseus Arm. Spanning ~200 light-years, it glows red from ionized hydrogen energized by intense radiation from the young, massive stars of the open cluster Melotte 15. Strong stellar winds and supernova shock fronts sculpt intricate filaments and dark dust lanes, while ongoing star formation continues within dense molecular clouds.
