Nineveh Coordinates

The artwork titled 'Nineveh Coordinates' presents the GPS coordinates of the ancient city of Nineveh, which served as the capital of Assyria in the 7th century BC. The city, with a history dating back to around 2000 BC, was situated near the Tigris River in present-day Iraq. Presently, only two mounds, Kouyunjik and Nabi Yunus, remain as remnants of this once-great city. Since 1842, various excavations have been conducted, revealing the remnants of the palaces of Senacherib, Esarhaddon, and Ashurbanipal. These excavations have yielded a wealth of artifacts, including archives, libraries, sculptures, winged sphinxes, and embossed plates, significantly enriching our understanding of Assyrian art and culture. Unfortunately, Nineveh met its demise in 612 BC when it was destroyed by the Medes and Babylonians.
