NGC 2244 The Rosette Nebula and Satellite Cluster in Monoceros. This object is one of the most famous nebulae in the winter sky. This nebula is located 5000 light-years away and is around 130 light-years in size. Some astronomers have nicknamed NGC 2244 the “Skull Nebula” due to its appearance as a skull. The Rosette Nebula appears to reside close to the Cone Nebula but is much farther away in the Perseus arm of our galaxy near the intersection with the Orion Spur.
