IC 2177 the Seagull Nebula. Located 3650 light-years away between the constellations of Monoceros and Canis Major lies a vivid nebula with a bright rim that is somewhat reminiscent of a bird in flight. This object is located near the cone nebula in the Orion Spur. This HII region contains many emission and reflection nebulae. A prominent bow shock can be seen by the high-velocity star FN Canis Majoris and it plows through the dust and gas of the nebula.
