MEDVSA MASCVLA is a male rendition of the mythological gorgon/woman Medusa, who had snake hair, and whose gaze would petrify any poor soul whose eyes met it. Here, Medusa himself is petrified, but with his eyes closed. His snakes have turned to stone, while his face still retains some flesh color. His serene facial expression leaves us perplexed as to the events leading up to his death.
