The IC 434 nebula, known as the Horsehead Nebula, is a dark nebula about 1,500 light-years away in the constellation Orion. It appears as a silhouette against a bright red hydrogen emission, illuminated by the nearby star Alnitak. Its iconic horsehead shape is formed by dense interstellar dust blocking the light. Part of the Orion Molecular Cloud Complex, this region is rich in star formation, making it a favorite target for astronomers and astrophotographers.
