The Lockheed F-104 Starfighter is a single-engine, supersonic fighter aircraft designed for the United States Air Force (USAF) during the Cold War. The F-104 was designed by Lockheed's Skunk Works division and first flew in 1954. The F-104 was one of the first aircraft to be capable of Mach 2, and it set several world speed and altitude records. The F-104 was also used by several other countries, including Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan, and Turkey. The F-104 was retired from USAF service in 1967, but it continued to be used by other countries until the 1990s.
