The F-100D Super Sabre is a supersonic fighter aircraft that was developed by North American Aviation for the United States Air Force. The Super Sabre was designed to replace the North American F-86 Sabre and was first flown in 1955. The F-100D was powered by a single Pratt & Whitney J57 turbojet engine and had a maximum speed of 920 mph. The aircraft was armed with four 20 mm cannons and could carry a variety of air-to-air and air-to-ground missiles. The F-100D Super Sabre was used extensively in the Vietnam War and was retired from service in 1971.
