The Nieuport Type 17 was a French fighter plane used in World War I. It was designed by Gustave Delage and was produced by the Societe Anonyme des Etablissements Nieuport. The Nieuport 17 was a single-seat, single-engine biplane with a wooden frame and fabric covering. It was armed with one 7.7mm Lewis machine gun and could reach a maximum speed of 115 mph. The Nieuport 17 was a successful fighter plane and was used by the French, British, and American air forces. It was eventually replaced by the SPAD S.XIII.
