It was published sometime between 1826 and 1833 during the Edo period of Japanese history as the first print in Hokusai's series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji. The print depicts Mount Fuji in the background and a village in the foreground. The mountain is depicted in shades of red and orange, and the village is depicted in black and white. The print is a classic example of ukiyo-e, a genre of Japanese woodblock printing that was popular in the 18th and 19th centuries.
