The artwork is a blueprint of a vinyl record patent filed in 1948 and granted in 1950. The patent is for a method of manufacturing vinyl records that uses a metal stamper to press the grooves into the record. The stamper is created using a master recording that is played back at a slower speed than the desired playback speed. This causes the grooves to be wider and shallower than they would be if the master recording were played back at the correct speed. When the stamper is used to press the vinyl record, the grooves are transferred to the record in the correct size and shape.
