The Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird is a retired reconnaissance aircraft designed and built by Lockheed Martin for the United States Air Force. It was developed as a replacement for the Lockheed A-12 Oxcart, and entered service in 1964. The SR-71 was designed to fly at high speeds and high altitudes, and was capable of Mach 3.2 and 85,000 feet. It was used for reconnaissance missions over Cuba, Vietnam, and North Korea, and was retired in 1998. The SR-71 remains an iconic aircraft, and is considered one of the most advanced and successful aircraft ever built.
