Nakagin Capsule Tower Building is a striking example of Metabolism, a post-war Japanese architectural movement that emphasized flexibility and adaptability. Designed by Kisho Kurokawa and completed in 1972, the building consists of two towers, each containing 140 prefabricated capsules that can be plugged into and removed from the concrete core. This modular design allowed for individual units to be replaced or updated, reflecting the Metabolist belief in the constant evolution of architecture.
