Charles Babbage is widely considered the 'Father of Computers' for his invention of the Difference Engine, an early mechanical computer. The Difference Engine was designed to perform mathematical calculations and was the first such device to be fully automatic. Babbage also conceived the Analytical Engine, a more advanced design that incorporated a printer and could be programmed using punched cards. Although neither the Difference Engine nor the Analytical Engine were ever completed, Babbage's work laid the foundation for the development of modern computers.
