Designed by the Yokosuka Naval Air Technical Arsenal, the K5Y was intended to replace the Mitsubishi B5M. The K5Y was powered by two 1,450 hp Mitsubishi MK4A Kasei 14 radial engines and had a maximum speed of 261 mph. It was armed with two 7.7 mm machine guns and could carry a single torpedo or up to 1,764 pounds of bombs.
