The SR-71 Blackbird is a retired high-altitude, long-range strategic reconnaissance aircraft developed and operated by the United States Air Force. It was designed as a replacement for the Lockheed A-12 Oxcart, and entered service in 1964. The SR-71 was capable of Mach 3 and could fly at altitudes of over 80,000 feet, making it virtually invulnerable to interception. It was used in a variety of missions, including reconnaissance, surveillance, and electronic warfare. The SR-71 was retired in 1998, but remains one of the most iconic aircraft in history.
