The Panavia Tornado ADV is a British-German-Italian variable-geometry interceptor and strike aircraft designed and manufactured by Panavia Aircraft GmbH. It first entered service in 1986 and was used by the Royal Air Force, the German Air Force, and the Italian Air Force. The Tornado ADV was developed from the Tornado IDS strike aircraft and was designed to intercept and destroy enemy aircraft. It was equipped with a powerful radar and a variety of air-to-air missiles. The Tornado ADV was a highly capable aircraft and served as the backbone of the air defense of the United Kingdom and its allies for many years.
