The painting depicts the Adoration of the Magi, a popular subject in Christian art. The Virgin Mary is seated on a throne, holding the infant Jesus in her arms. She is flanked by two magi, or wise men, who have come to pay homage to the newborn king. The first magus, wearing a blue robe, kneels and offers a gift of gold. The second magus, dressed in red and white robes, stands behind him and holds a gift of frankincense. The third magus, wearing a green robe, stands on the right side of the painting and holds a gift of myrrh. In the background, a group of angels hovers in the clouds.
