Charles Mingus

Charles Mingus was an American jazz bassist, composer, and bandleader. He is considered one of the most important and influential jazz musicians of the 20th century. Mingus was born in Nogales, Arizona, and began playing the double bass at an early age. He moved to New York City in 1951 and quickly became involved in the jazz scene. Mingus recorded extensively and performed with many of the leading jazz musicians of his time, including Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, and Miles Davis. He also led his own bands, which often featured innovative and experimental music. Mingus's music is characterized by its complex rhythms, harmonies, and melodies. He was also known for his outspoken personality and his commitment to social justice. Mingus died in 1979 at the age of 56.
