The Northrop F-5A Freedom Fighter is a lightweight supersonic jet fighter aircraft designed and built by Northrop Corporation. It was developed as a private venture in the late 1950s and entered service in 1962. The F-5A is a single-engine, single-seat aircraft with a distinctive twin-tail design. It is armed with two 20 mm cannons and can carry a variety of air-to-air and air-to-ground missiles. The F-5A was used extensively by the United States Air Force and Navy, as well as by a number of other countries. It has seen combat in a number of conflicts, including the Vietnam War and the Gulf War.
