The A-10 Thunderbolt II, nicknamed the Warthog, is a United States Air Force attack aircraft designed for close air support and ground attack. It was designed by Fairchild Republic and first flew in 1972. The A-10 is a single-seat, twin-engine, subsonic aircraft that is heavily armored and has a large internal weapons bay. It is armed with a 30 mm GAU-8 Avenger cannon, which is capable of firing 3,900 rounds per minute. The A-10 has been used in combat in the Gulf War, the Kosovo War, the War in Afghanistan, and the War in Iraq.
