The Douglas C-47 Dakota, also known as the Skytrain or Gooney Bird, was a military transport aircraft developed from the Douglas DC-3 airliner. It was used extensively by the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) during World War II and remained in service with the USAF until the 1970s. The C-47 was used in a variety of roles, including troop transport, cargo transport, and paratrooper drops. It was also used in civilian roles after the war.
