vostok rocket
The Vostok rocket was a Soviet space launch vehicle that was used to launch the first human into space, Yuri Gagarin, on April 12, 1961. The rocket was designed by Sergei Korolev and was based on the R-7 missile. It was a three-stage rocket, with a total height of 30.5 meters (100 feet). The first stage was powered by four RD-107 engines, the second stage was powered by a single RD-108 engine, and the third stage was powered by a single RD-0108 engine. The rocket had a total mass of 280 tons (620,000 pounds).
