The Lockheed F-117 Nighthawk is a single-seat, twin-engine stealth attack aircraft developed for the United States Air Force (USAF). Designed primarily as an air superiority fighter, the F-117 has also been used in ground attack and electronic warfare roles. The aircraft was developed by Lockheed Martin Aeronautics and first flew in 1981. It entered service in 1983 and was retired in 2008. The F-117 was the first operational aircraft designed with stealth technology, and it played a significant role in the Gulf War in 1991.
