The Boeing B-47 Stratojet was a long-range, six-engine, jet-powered strategic bomber designed and built by Boeing for the United States Air Force (USAF). The B-47 was designed to carry a nuclear weapon to targets deep within the Soviet Union in the event of war. The B-47 was the first bomber capable of flying at speeds over 600 miles per hour (970 km/h) and was the first jet bomber to enter service with the USAF.
