The Gloster Meteor was a British jet engine aircraft that was in service with the Royal Air Force from 1944 until 1955. It was the first jet aircraft to be used by the RAF and was also the first British jet aircraft to exceed the speed of sound. The Meteor was designed by Gloster Aircraft Company and was powered by two Rolls-Royce Derwent jet engines. It had a maximum speed of 600 mph and a range of 1,200 miles. The Meteor was used in a variety of roles during its service, including as a fighter, bomber, and reconnaissance aircraft. It was also used in the Korean War.
