USS Bowfin (SS-287) was a Gato-class submarine of the United States Navy, named for the bowfin, a type of fish. She was the first ship of the United States Navy to be named for this type of fish. The submarine was launched on December 7, 1942, by the Electric Boat Company in Groton, Connecticut, and commissioned on May 1, 1943, with Lieutenant Commander Charles B. Momsen in command. She served in the Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II, completing nine war patrols and sinking 15 enemy ships.
