The Soyuz-A was a proposed Soviet spacecraft designed in 1963 as a potential follow-on to the Vostok and Voskhod programs. Only one Soyuz-A was ever built, and it was used for ground testing. The Soyuz-A was intended to be a two-man spacecraft, with a crew of a commander and a pilot. The spacecraft would have been launched by a Soyuz rocket, and would have been capable of carrying a crew of two cosmonauts into orbit around the Earth.
