The Mazda 787B is a Group C prototype race car that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1991. It was the first Japanese car to win the race, and the only car to win with a rotary engine. The 787B was powered by a 2.6-liter quad-turbocharged rotary engine that produced 600 horsepower. It had a five-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive. The 787B was designed by Mazda's chief engineer, Nobuhiro Yamamoto. It was built with a carbon fiber monocoque chassis and had a lightweight aluminum body. The 787B was one of the most successful race cars of its era. It won the IMSA GTP Championship in 1991 and the All Japan Sports Prototype Championship in 1992.
