The T-40 was a Soviet light tank produced from 1936 to 1941. It was intended to replace the T-37A and T-26 tanks in service with the Red Army. The T-40 was designed by the OKB-40 design bureau under the leadership of N.V. Tseits. The T-40 was a small, lightly armored tank with a 45 mm gun and a coaxial 7.62 mm machine gun. It had a crew of two and a maximum speed of 45 km/h. The T-40 was used in the early stages of World War II, but it was quickly replaced by more modern tanks such as the T-34 and the KV-1.
