The Cruiser Mk III was a British cruiser tank developed in the early 1940s. It was intended to replace the Cruiser Mk II, which had been found to be underpowered and outgunned by German tanks. The Cruiser Mk III was armed with a 6-pounder gun and had a thicker layer of armor than its predecessor. It was also more mobile, thanks to its new suspension system. The Cruiser Mk III was used by the British Army in North Africa and Europe during World War II. It was a successful tank, and it helped to turn the tide of battle in favor of the Allies.
