The Northrop A-9A was a proposed American attack aircraft designed by Northrop in the 1960s. It was intended to be a low-cost, lightweight alternative to the A-7 Corsair II, and was designed to be highly maneuverable and agile. The A-9A had a distinctive appearance, with a long, slender fuselage and a large, swept wing. It was powered by a single General Electric J85 turbojet engine, and had a maximum speed of 650 mph. The A-9A was armed with two 20mm cannons, and could carry a variety of bombs and missiles. The A-9A was never built, but it remains a significant part of aviation history.
