The Galata Tower is a medieval stone tower in the Galata district of Istanbul, Turkey, just outside the walls of the old city. The tower was built in 1348 by the Genoese as part of the fortifications of their colony in Constantinople. The tower is 67 meters (220 feet) tall and has a diameter of 16.5 meters (54 feet). The tower has five floors and a terrace. The top floor of the tower offers panoramic views of Istanbul, the Bosphorus Strait, and the Sea of Marmara.
